IJda Smits is a multidisciplinary visual artist and poet. She began her artistic
practice with painting and graphic work and later explored the intersection of text
and image.
Working autonomously, she expanded her practice into digital prints,
visual poetry, textiles, and artist books.
Her work has been shown in galleries and public spaces across Europe. In recent
years she has focused on alternative photographic processes, using them as an
independent medium and in dialogue with other materials.
Smits’ work investigates the relationship between time, presence, and absence —
creating images that suggest more than they define.

IJda Smits is beeldend kunstenaar en dichter. Zij begon haar praktijk in
schilderkunst en grafiek en onderzocht later de relatie tussen tekst en beeld.
Autonoom werkend breidde zij haar praktijk uit met digitale prints, verbeelde
poëzie, textiel en kunstenaarsboeken.
Haar werk is getoond in galeries en openbare ruimtes in Europa.
De laatste jaren
richt zij zich op alternatieve fotografische processen, ingezet als zelfstandig
medium en in dialoog met andere materialen.
Haar werk verkent de relatie tussen tijd, aanwezigheid en afwezigheid — beelden
die meer suggereren dan definiëren.
